A trustline has to exist before the first payment lands. Sending USDT0 to an account that has no USDT0 trustline fails with op_no_trust. A wallet may create it for you when you swap into USDT0 in-app; a transfer arriving from an exchange or another wallet has no such fallback. If you custody for users, create it during onboarding — sponsored reserves can cover the reserve.
The OFT reconciles a precision gap for you. USDT0 on Stellar carries seven decimals; cross-chain transfers normalize to the OFT’s six shared decimals. Send 1.2345678 and 1.234567 moves; the remaining 0.0000008 is floored off as dust and refunded to you before the debit. Nothing to convert by hand — but account for it when you calculate or display an amount.
A route can enforce a minimum. Minimum transfer amounts are set per contract, so call quoteOFT() for the route you intend to use rather than assuming any amount will go through.
